week four- The Power of CSS & Design

while looking through the extra links for this week i decided to check out the one on designing one page portfolios. as i was looking through this sight i found it really interesting how the designer Chris spooner used photoshop in such a large way for his site. First he began by creating the entire website in photoshop. Then after he exported the background as a whole and put it into dreamweaver. then he exported many of the smaller elements and placed them using dreamweaver. i found this very cool cause it gave him the ability to create his whole website in photoshop and then export it without using slices to create a really nice well coded website. this technique was really interesting to me and i cant wait to get a chance to try it out.

when it came to the questions that were asked to the designers i thought there reactions to how to get out of writers block was interesting. i really liked all of there ideas but i thought it was a great idea when many of them said to get out and do something active. when i think about it that is really one of the things that makes alot of sence to me. i thought all the ideas in that section were really interesting

Week Three- Combining Type Faces Effectively & Using Effective Web Design

After reading both of the articles I felt like it was much easier to understand how a user interacts with a website. I really liked the photographs that showed the most viewed parts of a website. I feel like with this information it will make it much easier to design the layout of my website for project one. Also the section on streamlining your website to make it more manageable to view for viewers made a lot of since. Knowing that viewers lose interest after a certain amount of depth in the website helped me realize how to better design my site. These articles were super helpful and had a ton of really valuable information.

Week Two - Resources

Cnet.com is a technology based online review site. They review many types of technology, anything from software products to cameras to cellphones to computers. Cnet.com uses industry professionals to do both written and video reviews on all of the products. It also allows you to view reviews written by other cnet.com users who have experience with that particular product.  Cnet.com also rates items so you can tell which item they felt was the best according to its class, price, and feature set.

Because web/graphic design rely so heavily on technology, a site like this is crucial. As designers we need to research the technology we use, so we can purchase the best and most functional items. Personally I’ve used this site to research a ton of different purchases, including, two cameras (one point and shoot, one dslr), a video camera, external hard drive, computer, and a cell phone. Every time I’ve used cnet.com to review a piece of technology it hasn’t failed me and I’ve been happy with my purchase. So before you buy another pricy piece of technology check out cnet.com.

Week One - One Page Websites

I really liked how this site was done. I thought the background kept a really nice continuity through the entire site. I also really liked the interactive home screen. It was a really fun and engaging way to present the information on the opening page. The design of the site was great overall and the functionality was even better.

This site is one of the most unique ways I have seen a portfolio presented. I really enjoy how attention grabbing it is at first. It really helps draw you in and become interested in the site.  After going through the site a little bit there are some changes that I think would be really helpful. First I think that integrating the navigation into the desktop scene would be a great change. Also I don’t like how when you click on the nav menu items a new screen stays open at the bottom of the screen. I’d really like it if they swapped out instead. Other than that I really liked this website.

Here is another site that really grabs your attention from the get go.  The background is so striking and also presents the information easily. I really liked the idea of using icons as the navigation. It’s a great idea especially since most people are getting used to seeing icons weather they be for buttons, apps or any other technology based device.  One of the other main things I liked about this site was its size.  It’s a very small area to present information but it does it really well, which it thought was kind of cool.
